The Luckiest Man in the World

What has Les Miles done to deserve his good fortune this year. Not only was he 5-5 on fourth downs to beat Florida three weeks ago, but he was saved from being a goat last night by a great play from quarterback Matt Flynn and receiver Demetrius Byrd. With his team trailing by a point at 24-23 and the clock winding down LSU was well into kicker Colt David's range. LSU decided to run one more offensive play before attempting the field goal. With single coverage on Byrd on the outside, the Tigers thought that they could possibly score a touchdown to avoid having to kick the field goal. Sure enough, Flynn made a perfect throw to a streaking Byrd who made a supurb catch as the clock ticked down to one second. That's right, there was one second left on the clock after Byrd had hauled in the go-ahead touchdown pass. If that pass had been incomplete, and LSU had somehow allowed the clock to run out without being able to attempt the game-winning field goal Miles would have vilified by the LSU faithful. Instead he was bailed out by his great talent again. During his post-game interview, it seemed as if Miles didn't even know how close he came to a monumental mistake. Miles' luck will turn around at some point, and a coaching mistake will end up beating his Tigers.
