Jim Harbaugh...Football Savant?...and Other Musings

Apparently Jim Harbaugh knew what he was doing all along. First he calls out Pete Carroll at the PAC 10 media day saying this was going to be his last season. He then said he felt USC was arguably the best team in the history...before a game was even played this season. Add to that the comments about how Michigan bends the rules to get athletes....I mean student athletes into school (I know, you are as shocked as I am). What did this do for Captain Comeback? Very little seeing as how Stanford was blasted in 3 of their 4 games leading up to the USC public funeral. Clearly Stanford had other plans. The Cardinal took it to the Crips....I mean Trojans and shocked the college football world. While this will most likely prove to have been a fluke it certainly gives Harbaugh some priceless pub while he tries to revive the hapless Stanford program.

In the game of the day the best team in the country (LSU) survived blow after blow from the Florida Gators. If anyone doubts the SEC as the premier conference just watch a replay of that game and shut the fuck up. The speed that was on display was unrivaled and the coaching was top notch. LSU coach Les Miles gambled all night long including going 5/5 on 4th down conversions including going for a 4th down instead of kicking a gimme FG to tie the game with less than 3 minutes to play. This guy coaches like I do on Xbox 360. The Gators are now in the title bearers of the "best team with 2 losses after 6 weeks" award (trophy presentation will be on Tuesday in Gainseville). LSU cannot savor this game for too long as they have to run a mini-gauntlet for the next 3 weeks taking on Kentucky, Auburn and Alabama. Should the Tigers get to 9-0 an undefeated season should be expected.

In other action around the nation Tennessee shat on Georgia jumping out to a 28-0 halftime lead and cruising to a 35-14 victory in what was easily the worst Georgia game in Mark Richt's 7 seasons as head coach of the Dawgs. In the "what the fuck happened to that team" game of the day Missouri embarrassed Nebraska 41-6 in a game that wasn't even that close. In year 4 of the Bill Callahan regime Nebraska looks no better than a middle of the pack Big 12 team and may be the 5th best team in the North. The Nebraska defense, formerly known as the blackshirts, has given up over 40 points in three of their last 4 games as well as giving up 400 yards in all but 1 game this season. Seeing as Callahan was given a 3 year extension after week 1 this season it appears as though Nebraska may not find respectability for a long time. It must be very rough to be a Nebraska fan at the moment.

FYI: This week there will be the debut of the Top 25 and Heisman polls for our beloved readers to enjoy.
